General Deception!

It is election season and I feel most Americans like me are concerned about which candidate will be the best for the job of president. My main concern is which candidate I should select! Since the 9/11 attacks Americans have become more concerned with who should be ruling the nation. Perhaps, in my opinion, nearly everyone in America realized that many other nations have their eyes looking towards us. Some often look at us with a feeling of affection for the simple reason of the benefits they have received from the US through the years. On the other hand, others who previously received help from the US have become tired of Americans because now it is time to pay back. I refer to this because most of the involvement of America in foreign lands was for the purpose of protecting protect personal interests of the US and not just to help others. A great example of this is that the United States is one of the few countries with a military presence in many places outside its political territory, such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and even South Korea. Also, the US is the nation with more representatives in foreign lands; the US has more than 180 embassies in countries all around the world. In this perspective, I could say that many decisions made inside the US have repercussions outside our boundaries.

Then I ask myself, what will be the global effects the new American president will create? Does John McCain have the answer or is it Barack Obama who has the solution for America? On one side, McCain is trying to elevate his popularity by distancing himself from President George W. Bush but without affecting his support from the Republican Party. He proposes an energy security plan to fight against the rulers of nations who control the largest oil production, such as Presidents Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. McCain declares on his Multimedia- News Web Ad: Energy Security, he wants to play hard against those who control the oil, or as he called them “states, regimes and cartels of oil.” His proposal is to invest in alternative energy, such as wind energy, nuclear energy, solar energy, bio-fuels, and domestic drilling. On the other side, Obama opposes domestic offshore drilling, and he proposed to control the excessive speculation of the oil prices by traders. Also he wants to terminate the Enron Loophole an energy agreement of the US with international traders. He declares that the war in Iraq rather than helping us has contributed to make the US vulnerable to oil speculators. He maintains the necessity of investing in new energy alternatives to drop our dependence on oil. He proposes to reduce oil consumption, and invest in the development of more efficient cars. Also he wants to delegate a “new agency to find the speculators behind the barrel of oil over pricing”, according to his speech about Offshore Oil Drilling at Jacksonville, Florida on June 20, 2008. Also he proposes to release a new fuel standard to avoid domestic drilling. But in reality I think neither McCain nor Obama will drop the prices of gasoline in the near future. It is in the hands of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), to regulate and control the prices of oil around the world and not the U.S itself. Obama states that the problems in the America economy are due to the “dumb war in Iraq”, as he called it; and he accuses Senator McCain for supporting it. It is a reality that reducing our dependence on oil will help control the price of gas in America. But, it will take months, perhaps years, for us to have a moderate gas price level again. Also, according to declarations of Dr. Chakib Khelil, President of OPEC to the international media during the 148TH OPEC meeting in Vienna, Austria, says “the prices of the crude are moderate for the global demand; it is the dollar that is weak, not the oil.” Dropping the demand of purchasing black gold from Venezuela, Mexico, and Middle East nation will have incredible global effects. Probably, it will bring more stability to the economy and make the dollar stronger again.

Sadly during the past few months, the increasing prices of crude oil have been a good topic for political propaganda for both parties. I am tired of being consumed by pure media propaganda which is supported by both candidates. In my point of view there’s not a clear realistic proposal for our real needs. Both candidates have concentrated on giving superficial solutions to a problem that will not find a conclusion in a short time. In a marvelous political strategy, the two candidates don’t show their secret agendas and their real positions, which will be only be know to the general public whenever is too late for me an others citizens to decide about it. Both McCain and Obama are changing their minds often according to what is popular in certain specific moments, such as immigration, health care and taxes. I have watched plenty of debates from McCain and Obama and their supporters, and it is sad seeing how quickly they change their minds on important topics. Seem these debates only have left me with a bad sensation on not truly known neither candidate real proposal. I would like to really see which candidate is truly concerned about the necessities of the regular citizen. I want to hear not only about gas prices but also about the policies for food control, and clothes manufacturing among, other basic necessities. I ask myself which candidate is willing to provide a way to stop Americans from losing their houses? For me the issue is not what political party is better, Republican or Democrat, or about which candidate sounds better on T.V. It is important to me to know which candidate will create policies that will still work after their term in office is finished.

I sense the extreme urgency of taking a serious review of all the policies the two candidates are proposing and to compare them carefully. There’s a need even to see what position they have not on oil, immigration, and taxes, but also in scientific research of human stem cells, abortion, homosexual marriage, and family values. I strongly believe that the biggest crisis around the world is that we have lost the sense of what a family is all about. I want a president who contributes to the cohabitation of all humans on this big planet which, for me, has small boundaries. How will the next president, whoever he will be, give me and all Americans, not just another political term but a security that we are investing in the preservation of humanity and a better life for the upcoming generations?

Sure America has been a model for many nations and I think the price had been paid on both sides. The world is expecting to see the new path the US is going to take with its next president. Its McCain’s pledge to expand fair international trades a solution which will bring security, stability, better economy, and create new jobs? Or it will be Obama who will bring refreshment to the US creating the desire in other nations to want to work together with us for a better future?

There are still a few more months to get to know the candidates more and to elect America’s next commander in chief. I hope that before November Americans can have a better distinction between McCain and Obama so we can make a right decision. I also hope that the media will start to discuss both candidates’ proposals in more detail and not just focus on McCain’s age, or Obama’s skin color. Whoever will be the next president will have four years to prove himself and take America to the level everyone desire. I just hope we decide early and not when is too late to repent.
